The Senate President Bukola Saraki has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Saraki made his defection known in a tweet on his official handle @bukolasaraki.
I wish to inform Nigerians that, after extensive consultations, I have decided to take my leave of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him “I wish to inform Nigerians that, after extensive consultations, I have decided to take my leave of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
“This is not a decision that I have made lightly. If anything at all, I have tarried for so long and did all that was humanly possible, even in the face of great provocation, ridicule and flagrant persecution, to give opportunity for peace, reconciliation and harmonious existence.”
“Perhaps, more significantly, I am mindful of the fact that I carry on my shoulder a great responsibility for thousands of my supporters, political associates and friends, who have trusted in my leadership and have attached their political fortunes to mine.”
Although the Saraki is yet to announce the political party where he will be pitching his tent, he is currently in Kwara State, in a closed-door meeting with the State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
The meeting is holding at Saraki’s residence in Ilorin, Kwara State capital. Members of the National, State Assembly, Commissioners and 10 representatives from 16 Kwara local governments are said to be in attendance.
